How to Replace an audi replacement key service G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated near the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
Located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.
If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper chain. However, the code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It is a little tricky to test since there are various connector pins, and they all have different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had a big cut in power like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector costs hole and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump out. The fourth one remains shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is 0.
I'm not certain what to do, i think i've pretty much eliminated everything else. But i am afraid i might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these sensors go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.
A malfunctioning G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or an unfire when in gear. If you experience any of these issues it is likely your sensor is going bad and requires replacement. They're inexpensive and easy to locate, especially if they're an Bosch unit like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this component is a good option.
5. Tachometer
A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous issues in your audi car key replacement cost. It's an essential component of the transmission of your audi a3 key fob since it sends information to the ECU on how fast or slow the car's engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other components of the car to be affected.
The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It sends an electrical signal through a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to control fuel, timig and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor audi A4 Key Replacement failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. You can also verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should detect an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a standard component across the audi key replacement cost uk 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good ones might be availble in wrecking yards.
