286708_Volvo_Iron_Mark.jpg?How to Replace an audi lost key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU via a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two connector pins and they have different functions but the best method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms when the sensor is in full operation. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole, car Key cover Audi and when i start the engine with no sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do, as i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines requires to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these goes wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire in the gear. It is likely that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you notice any of these signs. The good news is they are very affordable and easy to find particularly in the case of an Bosch model, like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this part would be an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be a cause for numerous problems in your car. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi replacement car keys since it sends information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the car's engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate the amount of fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these two points. This part is common across the Audi Key Replacement Cost Uk 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 Du So, you may find them in wrecking yards.
